LOC Special Session: NGOs and Foundations in Saudi Urban Planning: A discussion about their role and successes

Session Information

Saudi Vision 2030 is the overarching strategy that is leading to fast diversification of the economy, a dynamic and responsible administration and the empowerment of citizens. Planning is at the crossroads of multiple pillars of the Vision and is central to the initiatives aimed at putting people at the center of urban futures and urban development. NGOs and Foundations have therefore a fundamental role to play in establishing the links between city authorities, planning authorities and residents and business communities.

This session, with short presentations and discussions from multiple speakers, showcases NGOs engagement in urban planning projects. NGOs, community engagement and voluntary efforts are increasingly significant in local planning focusing on people centered approaches to city planning.

The session is a great opportunity for a global audience to understand changes in the planning environment in Saudi Arabia and the new roles that NGOs are playing. It is also an occasion for important NGOs active in Riyadh to exchange experiences and compare aspirations.
